Want to know how well they hold up? For starters, we've had some of these decals on the floor of our shop for over a year. In a print shop! They're still vibrant, they're not scuffed, they don't move ... until we move them. Yep, still re-positional and they still leave absolutely no residue. They even hold up to mild cleaning agents (we do clean our floors every now and then). So what can they do for you?

To truly take advantage of both floor graphics and custom die cutting, the following brands have gone one step farther (excuse the pun) in marketing the 5th wall. If the idea is to get their respective products noticed, then their advertising playfulness has surely paid off. By using footprints—paw prints—,they literally direct the shopper to their product on store shelves. Clever.

SAFETY NEVER TAKES A HOLIDAY

Unlike other forms of advertising, floor decals have a safety factor that requires a knowledgeable printer using the proper materials. Specifically a three-part system of a 4 mil lay-flat vinyl substrate, high performance removable acrylic adhesive, and a 6 mil slip-resistant laminate on top. We always use UL recognized materials on our floor and carpet graphics. In addition to mitigating slipping, the laminate also provides glare resistance from overhead lighting. If your printer skimps on just one of these important steps in the printing process, your floor decal will be unsafe for those walking on them.

At Dilco, we're occasionally asked to compete with less qualified printers by quoting on floor graphics with inferior substrates or components. We can't. There's a reason clients return to us over and over to make their graphics for floor and carpet advertising. We are competitive, but we also do things the right way. It's one of the reasons we've been doing this for over 40 years.

FLOOR GRAPHIC DECALS HAVE LITTLE COMPETITION

Given the lack of competition, nothing says "Hel-lo!" like a floor graphic decal. Having your branding on a decidedly less crowded playing field will garner attention like nothing else. Combine location with great photo-realistic graphics and you end up with one very effective marketing tool. That's part of the beauty of 4-color process printing. It can make a pistachio nut look like you could reach out and grab it right off the floor (5-second rule notwithstanding).

Many of the floor graphics and carpet graphics we make are 5 or even 6 feet long. That's about 15 times bigger than a shelf wobbler. No, it's not an oxymoron. Floor graphics will adhere for months, yet are easily removed when it's time for a new campaign message. We offer two types of material; one for hard floor surfaces, and one for commercial carpets. With digital printing, we can even accommodate extra-large floor graphics, 52" wide by however long you need.

HOW FLOOR GRAPHIC DECALS ARE MADE

Since I always like to tell you how stuff is made, here's the low-down on how we make them; and a recap of all the technical stuff. Floor graphics are basically really big decals. If the quantity is small, we digitally print them. If, on the other hand, you need several hundred, then screen printing is far more cost-effective. There are virtually no size limitations. They can be up 52" wide and however long you need them. They're printed on 4 mil white floor graphic vinyl. Next, we add a 6 mil non-slip laminate. As I stated at the beginning of this article (but bears repeating), all the materials we use for floor graphics are UL recognized. To finish them, they're either square cut or custom die cut. The adhesive will make these guys stick for months, yet they're easy as pie to remove once the promotion's over.
