POPping the Question

"Will you buy me?"

Sounds elementary, but think about it.  Impulse buys are, well, impulsive.  And, like other marketing solutions, Point-of-Purchase displays are designed to get you noticed, boost sales, and make folks want to buy your product.   But POP is more than a moniker for the point of purchase [or point of sale]; it can also be a very literal pop-up display, three-dimensional.

Whether on an end cap or at the register, a POP Display adds interest.  It can either house the item you're selling, affix to a bin that the item is in, or simply sit there "talking" to your customer.  They can depict special promotional merchandise, sales, seasonal products, or everyday purchases like gum, candy, and batteries.


Other Uses

•  POP Displays can be used as auxiliary shelving at the end of an aisle or in front of the register counter.  This is especially useful in smaller stores or when you need to be sure of your product's placement.

•  They can also be a mini billboard, sticking out of a container filled with the merchandise they're advertising.

What's the Point?

POP displays can be either two- or three-dimensional.  They can be small, large, or anywhere in-between.  The point is that they are the last thing a customer sees when making a purchase.  Additionally, they're often instrumental in narrowing down selections.  In essence, they make it easier to buy what you're selling.

Cosmetic purchases, for instance, fall into two categories:  The first are the staples; repeat purchases of tried and true products.  But much of the billion dollar industry is based on impulse buys.  These split-second decisions get made when a customer sees a POP display housing just a few nail polishes or lipsticks.  Because the customer doesn't have to peruse the vast array in the regular aisle, they automatically scan the display and choose their favorite color.  And buy it.
